Gaining a new perspective on what it means to be human. This course will be about "new perspectives" and those people and events that hopefully inspire us. Tuesday - Due in class:
1. Complete the Freshman Introductory Letter due Sept. 4 (not graded)
2.View the first 14 minutes of the video on the Origins of the Bible (the first video on this blog)
3. Read pages 7-12 answer the first and third questions on page 12.Complete this in your "Notes" section of your binder.
Be sure to submit your "Peanuts" questions On Tuesday, September 4th.
In Class
Discussion of "For Review" on page 12. In what sense can the Bible be thought of as a time capsule from God? What does it mean to say that Scriptures are the Words of God? What does it mean to say that they are inspired by God? Explain how the Bible can be thought of as the result of a collaboration of God and human beings? Assignment: Read text pages 13 - 24 (You may quickly review maps although the map on p. 20 is a good synopsis of key historical events) We do the following in class tomorrow (Wednesday!): 1. Find 5 events or persons to put on your timeline in front of your book. 2. Highlight the definition of canon DO this: 3. Commit to memory the first 5 books of the Pentateuch or Torah (law) 4. Begin to brainstorm on person who inspires you.
Wednesday, September 5th Prayer: From the Book of Proverbs Proverbs 21:23Those who guard their mouths and their tongues keep themselves from calamity.
Proverbs is the book - 21 is the chapter of the book - 23 is the verse of the chapter
