The margin on the right of this post lists three key links that will help in "unpacking" and understanding the course material. As you read the course text, Written on Our Hearts, as well as the Scriptures pages for each week, use the links as a resource in understanding new words/terms. Also, please note any questions that arise from both readings. Write these in your binder.
The following is a brief introduction to the study of the Hebrew Bible
Origins of the Written Bible
A History of God is a production based upon the book by the same name written by Karen Armstrong. View up to the 14:24 mark. In the first fourteen minutes you are given a good introduction to the culture and religious world view to which a "new" faith, Judaism would soon emerge in the Ancient Near East. It goes into the beginning of what is know as the Patriarchal Age found in the Book of Genesis.
The following is an interesting and slightly humorous overview of the The Old Testament (Hebrew Scriptures)
